I am a writer and editor in love with the stories, people and landscape of the Canadian North. After publishing widely in magazines, newspapers and anthologies, I released my first book, Iceberg Tea, a collection of funny personal stories about life in the North, in 2010. My novel Free Love, a story about recovery from alcoholism, was released in early 2016. I am now writing a a blog called Recovery Notes which focuses on my own recovery from alcoholism. This may turn into my next book, although it’s still too early to say for sure.
NEW FICTION by Annelies Pool
In the dead cold of a northern Canadian winter, 30-year-old Marissa finds herself in a detox centre, every bone in her body yearning for a drink. Free Love takes us into the heart of the recovery community in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, as Marissa struggles to find hope in a town that loves to party, where temptation and the beauty and danger of the northern wilderness are never far away.
”A moving portrait of a woman rediscovering herself … with many moments of powerful wisdom.”
